How to do it
- Sit parallel on a bench with your feet flat on the floor. Hold a barbell across your upper back with an overhand grip, hands slightly wider than shoulder-width apart.
- Hinge at your hips and lean your torso forward, lowering it towards your thighs while keeping your back straight.
- Lower your torso until it is nearly parallel to the floor, while keeping your back straight and your elbows slightly bent.
- Lift your torso back to the starting position. Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.
Form tips
- Focus on hinging at the hips rather than bending at the waist to properly target the lower back and hamstrings.
- Control the descent and ascent of your torso to maximize muscle engagement and prevent strain.
- Breathe steadily, exhaling as you lower your torso and inhaling as you return to the starting position.
